I know this thread has been quiet for awhile but the work shown on this thread is just down right impressive!!! It never cease to amaze me the quality of work completed by others. Any new scenes that others might add to this thread?? Cheers
Mine is probably the snow shed on the East end of the layout. Roof comes off to clean track. Keeps people from peaking around corner to see the entry to staging.
My original response to this thread was that my double-tracked, double-decked road/rail bridge would be my best feature, when completed. Here are some updated shots of that bridge.
Nice to see my thread come back to the top and also to see such nice work! Inspiration on a cold winter night....
It's tough trying to pick a single feature I like the most about my layout. I think the 1 scale mile long PPU East Peoria Yard with the Cedar Street Bridge and East Peoria/Tabor Grain is one of the best features of my layout. But I'm also pleased with how well I have been able to represent the whole steel making process in the Keystone Steel and Wire Mill. The Mill complex is a scale mile long and operators can choose from 3 separate Keystone Jobs to complete: 1) switching out the 25 empty scrap gons in the charging yard for the loaded scrap gons in the south end marshalling yard...and making sure the correct types and amounts of scrap materials are brought in from the marshalling yard tracks to the charging yard tracks. 2) moving cars within the plant to or from the barge tracks, mill scap, crop scrap tracks, shredding/bundling/cast crushing tracks, and storage tracks from and to various loading, unloading, or processing sidings, and to/from the north end materials yard arrival/departure tracks for delivery to the PPU Yard in East Peoria; and 3) moving the loaded or empty charging cars between the charging yard tracks and the OHF, and the mold cars through all the stages of the steel-making process (prepared empty molds to the open hearth furnace track, hot molds from the OHF to the cooling track, cool molds to the stripping track, cars with empty stools from the stripping track to accept the next batch of molds stripped from the cooled ingots, and empty molds from the stripping shed back to the prep shed for cleaning).
Some really inspiring stuff in this thread for sure. No pictures as no layout, but I'm pretty happy with the progress on my continuous single track main plan. It goes round and round but I don't think it will look like it.
I have many favorite scenes on my layout(s), but one that visitors always seem to enjoy is my toxic siding module. I have used Deluxe Innovation (glow in the dark) hoppers, a two-headed cow, and Woodland Scenics' beekeepers (as men dressed in hazmat dress) to give a contaminated look to the scene. It usually brings a chuckle from my guests when I turn out the lights and they see the cars glowing. (It's probably my twisted sense of humor coming out.)
Love the bridges gentlemen! So many expertly crafted bridges in this thread. Pete, outstanding work!!! Here's my contribution. The old meets the new, on my 2'x4', 'Rio Cobre Gap' Module. More bridges to come as the layout grows and my skills sharpen.
Wow, I would've never guessed a town being there, I was thinking forest, or hill with rock cuts, that is really a great use of space!
Here’s that same scene from a different angel. The big gray station is actually the Humboldt County Railroad Museum” along with the “Lost Coast Model RR Code”. The blue house is the “Railroad House B&B” The lighthouse is decommissioned and is either going to be a maritime museum. In the first sceneiked photo you can see the interlock tower (Decommissioned) along with a caboose and a viewing stand. This fenced in pentagonal area is the main train watching region of “Eureka’s Rail Park”
Hi Dave, Can we see a photo of were the bridge meets the backdrop? I am trying to do the same thing on my layout and just can't seem to get an idea on how the road is to continue. Thanks, Gary
I'm only working on the shelf layout at the moment.. but I'd have to say I'm most proud of my streets
