Where is the best place to go to see non stop action in SC or GA?

I live in Greenville SC and there is hardly any trains in my area. My 5 year old son loves trains and is frequantly disapointed after sitting at the Amtrack station for an hour without seeing anything. I would like to take my son to an area where there is a lot of action.

I got USGS maps and photos of both SC and GA and found a huge yard in Macon GA. Is Macon a good spot?

    Thanks for any info.

Damz68 - I don't railfan anymore, but there's an intermet tour (Frograil??) that covers a lot of routes in N.C./S.C./GA.

Also, in the interim - have you considered any of the railroad videos/DVD's?

There are several good places to watch trains here in GA, depends on how far you want to travel. There is Dalton, Austell, Cartersville, Folkston, Cordele and a few others. As with any rail line, you may hit it good and then it may be dead for a while. As for the most trains per day I would say Folkston on the CSX and for NS, I would say Austell.

I have not railfanned Coumbia, SC, but it seems like you should have some action...

Charleston has a lot of action, both NS & CSX.

Salisbury (NC) has a lot of action and a great RR museum & train shop!
