I would really like to pick up an Athearn Genesis SD 70m in UP colors. Does anyone have any suggestions of where to look for a good price. The lowest I have found is $76.95 and I would like to do a bit better than that if I could. Would like to get it for about what I can get the ATSFs for. Thanks for any suggestions.
Considering the MSRP is $115, you're not gonna do much better than $75 or so, which is about a 35% discount. Keep in mind that most dealers buy from Walthers at a 40% discount, and most would like to make some money. As far as I know, be lucky you can still find them in UP, as most were sold out.
You should also be aware that the SD-70 series has lots of details to be added. According to the MR July 99 report, there's a detailed 8 page instruction manual explaning the instal of these detailed parts. Also the unit weighs 14.8 oz and to increase draw bar pull/rail adhesion, you may wish to add some weight.
