Got lucky and caught the BHL train three spots. #1: That's one BIIIIG honkin' load - there's no way to capture the sheer size on camera!
Spot #2: I showed up at a level crossing with the BNSF crew and local police. Chatted with the policeman and told him all of Russ's stories. Either he believed 'em or he just wanted me out of his sight, but he said, sure, go ahead, take all the pictures you want. So this puppy came crawling by a few feet away from little old moi. Did I mention this is one huuuuge load?
Fortunately the train stopped, allowing me time to head off to Pepsi Center, where there's a bridge crossing the track. When they saw me on the bridge, they got going again...
Great shots! The new Mile High Stadium and Elitch Gardens make an impressive background. And the track to the left of the main must be the new light rail operation.
William: I have a dial up modem and I enjoyed all that immensely! Thanks! Only takes one engine to pull it? How fast was it going there in Denver?
Top speed of 15mph alot of times less. It was amazing standing close to this load. I like how Williams shots show the load moved off center while in a curve.
Well as usual for a major event work interfered with my day. I usually only have on call once every 10 weeks so of course this was my week. So here are 2 shots of the train. Hope everyone enjoys Steve Here is the whole shooting match: And here is a shot of the new Locomotive. And here is the load:
Hemi, they had the pickup truck riding ahead to clear the crossings. The train stopped at the bigger crossings, and those seemed to have local and BNSF "officials." The police I talked to were friendly and accommodating. I saw two foamers at the 6th Street offramp of the I-25, none at the level crossing and two at the Pepsi Center bridge. Steve, great shots! Nice to see SOME snow got left from the storm just 5 days ago. As you can see from my shots, in Denver itself there's hardly a trace...
I wonder if the train crews were amused by the folks chasing, and taking pictures? Speaking of photos, did any local media pick up on this event? Boxcab E50
William and Steve thankyou for going to the effort of taking these pics. Outstanding shots and they really give you feel of the immnesity of the load. Once again thanks for the posting the photos.
Compliments to Trainboard members for the interesting coverage and great photos of the reactor train over the past three weeks during its journey from Houston. FYI the reactor was successfully offloaded from the tension skid and moved into the refinery over the weekend. An 1100 ton Transi-Lift crane was used with assistance from several other large cranes. The reactor is now sitting on tempory saddles while a base ring is welded into place over the next few days. When this is finished the reactor will be lifted to a vertical position by the Transi-lift and two large tailing cranes onto its 20 ft high concrete pedestal where it will be bolted permanently into place. End of Journey. Thanks again Trainboard.com
