Was wondering if anyone caught the short segment on building locomotives from the GE plant (Erie, PA) on John Ratzenberger's Made in America I guess 5 minutes is all they give to any subject... but it was still cool to see the bare frame, the cab sections, the engine/alternator, and the trucks - and how it comes together... By accident, I caught the very end of this, a few months ago. Can't even remember what channel???? Boxcab E50
The episode was nicely done on one of my favorite prgograms, "Made in America" on the Travel Channel.
Mike, If things like that interest you, pick up a copy of this month's Popular Science. They have a nice article on the rebirth of freight railroads called "Super Locomotives". There is a great pic of GE's plant showing locos in various stages of being built. Happy railroading! Russ
Saw that episode- like others, I stumbled across it while channel-surfing. BTW, Trains did an article on the GE facilities in Erie some time back. To get more info on how their locomotives are built, the article is more of an in-depth read. And since GM's diesels are now made north of the border, GE is the only American-made diesel locomotive builder.
