The S-1 was busy switching the pig ramp in 1979. Sure sounded good. Anyone have an idea how long it was till they retired the 7094? I sure don't know. Greg Elems
Dunno when it was retired, but I remember seeing it switching the yards in Victoria, on the E&N in 1988. [ 18. February 2003, 19:11: Message edited by: E&NRailway ]
Here is another shot from 1979. Those were the good times. VIA was still running FP7's and FP-9's. Greg Elems
Must have been a different switcher I saw in Vic West then...I'm guessing it was probably an SW8... As for that Geep, I have a picture of it in the yards at Vic West, getting ready to head north with a Victoria Turn. [ 24. March 2003, 21:27: Message edited by: E&NRailway ]
CP did indeed have 2 SW8 switchers assigned to Victoria starting in the early 1980's, those being #'s 6701 and 6702. Prior to that I can remember Baldwin DS 4-4-1000 # 7070 in Nanaimo and Victoria as late as early 1981. CP also had a couple of SW1200 RS units assigned at various times from the mid 1980's until the early 1990s's when they removed the trackage along Store street, which was the reason they were needed (Geeps could not handle the curves). Cheers. Terry
Saw a couple of CP Alco switchers in Toronto in 1985, not sure if they were S1 or S2. I have pics on slides and will be scanning them soon. One was shoving a string of boxcars across the intersection of Spadina bridge and Front Street? halting all the traffic The other scooted along the main line through the station with a caboose. Oh, the good old days
I remember seeing a GP9 on Store Street...Paul Crozier Smith was telling me that crews would often use whatever power was available and a Geep could be sometimes seen on the Store Street trackage.
