Were the ATSF E units ever painted in blue and yellow? All blue and yellow AB units I have seen were 8 wheel F units. Thanks, Joe Daddy
Hi, diligentman, At least in my recent 3+ years of active Santa Fe modeling and hobby research, I have never seen a photo of a Santa Fe E unit painted in blue/yellow. I believe the E8m, E6, E3, and E1's all wore red/silver Warbonnet paint their whole lives. As an aside, the few Santa Fe F unit passenger red/silver Warbonnets that were repainted in blue/yellow - were repainted in the "BlueBonnet" or "YellowBonnet" paint. At least from my research, none of those ex-passenger repaints were to the freight blue/yellow scheme. Hope it helps! Corrections welcome.
Back on topic, how about Alco PA units? Were any of them ever in Blue and Yellow? And thanks for the clarity around the E units. Joe Daddy
Santa Fe's PA's also only wore the Silver/Red Warbonnet, however one, #53 was painted in a Silver/Gold Warbonnet.
Here's a link I found of a Brass model of #53. http://www.modeltrains.com/PICTURES...rland/Pictures/OMI-6751-7000/omi-6922.1-4.jpg
In 1960, General Electric was having a sales promtion campain in Southern California called "Golden Values." In February of that year the Santa Fe painted PA 53, a baggage car and three lounge cars in the gold paint scheme for GE to use on a special train between LA, Pasadena, San Bernadino, Fullerton and San Diego. When GE was finished eveything was repainted to the normal scheme.
GE wasn't making main-line loco's for the US market at the time, they didn't launch their own (U25B) until 1963. They had made some switchers, and supplied electrical gear to Alco for their loco's though, so probably the PA has GE electrics.
Wow, thanks for that info! Now to get Kato or L-L to do them. Am I the only one who has a fascination for one-of-a-kind locos?
Er, well, ah, yes . . . sort of . . . But they were the four PAs ATSF sold to the Delaware & Hudson circa 1970 . . . Regards, Paul
