Well I knew BN had one Executive E unit but I saw on the BN photo Archives a spot for BN4, did they acually finish this Locomotive? Also what did they use BN3 for? I have only seen pics of BN 1 and 2 pulling train's, never BN 3.

<font color="336633">I think BN3 was finished, but BN4 wasnt, I also dont think that BN3 ever got used.

I still think its a shame that BNSF got rid of those  , im not sure why they did, after all the F9-2's was basically GP38-2's so parts wouldnt have been a prob.

    :(

I was chating with a BNSF employee who works at the Interbay shops in Seattle, he was upset that BNSF gave these away. "They were damn fine looking engines" he said. This employee was also not happy with the SF managment now working at Interbay and said he wears his Milwakee Road hard had to piss them off. I have also heard the F9-2's were used as frieght power on occasion when they were needed, now that would be a site!

Hey there, guys. Since you're talkin about the BN engines #1-4, maybe you'd be happy to know that they're in good hands at the Illinois Railway Museum. I've had the chance to ride in BN 3 (E-unit I think), and BN 1 (F-unit). The IRM also has a b-unit for BN 1 I think, and the cab of the BN 1 has an upgraded cab with a newer control stand, seats, and even a cusioned floor! But they have one of those dad-blamed horns running off of a sander button, not handle like most diesels. The BN 3 has the old cab which I was also in, and I had the pleasure of walking past its engine block at idle...what a sound! Since I ran BN 1, I can tell you it is a damned good engine-IRM really takes care of it. BN sometimes borrows it for Executive Specials, and I know they did that for Galesburg Railroad Days I think. Talk to ya guys later. happy railroading!

    Hello All.
BN 1-3, 9920 are all retired.

BN1-2 are Ex NP Fs that were repainted in to executive schemes in 1990 They have been retired and Donated to Illinois Railray Musuem in Union Ill. BN 3 is an E-9 that was repainted in 1993-94, it was former BN 9919, Ex CBQ 9989 it was used only too generate electric power for the cars on a few trips. But it was used.

BN-4 was never labled as such it was BN9920 and before anything was decided on that unit the BN and SF merged and SF management said get rid of the power. All four units were at Union Ill but They got rid of 9920 and donated it to a town in Texas. That town's historial society it repainting the locomotive into it'S original CBQ Livery of CBQ 9990.

BN 2 (the B-unit) is canabullized at IRM for parts for BN 1. BN 1 and three are operating. BN1 is used regularly on their passenger train. BN3 is pulled out occationally. Hope this clears up any questions ya'll might have. Igf not, feel free to E-mail me.

This edit is taking place a year or so later how ever there is a site for BN9920 (BN-4) Here it is and here is what the locomotive looks like today. BN9920 (BN-4)
