I'm curious if anyone knows how often and which cabs were used on Inside Gateway trains besides WP's. I've seen one photo so far of an SP&S cab on a train southbound from Bieber, but not much else. As many of BN/GN/NP/SP&S/Q units made it onto the head end, I would imagine their cabs were pretty common on the tail. Any thoughts? Thanks!
I can't say for certain that any NP cabooses made it down there before the merger. But wouldn't be surprised to learn that a few did afterward. Boxcab E50
NP cabooses wouldn't be found further west than Pasco on the SP&S, much less the WP Highline. SP&S handed all their NP traffic over at Pasco, and the two railroads, while related, did not operate trains in conjunction. I'm pretty sure GN cabooses were scarce on the Oregon Trunk, too. GN did assign Geeps to through trains, and they show up frequently in SP&S pics from the OT. The trains were operated by the SP&S, so I suspect that SP&S cabooses were used. After the merger, just about any caboose could be found anywhere. Pat
