Any photos around of BN power over Homestake Pass? I know it's out of service nowadays, but surely, someone must have 'fanned that line in the BN era...
Seems as though that was an area like the famous "Gap" on the Milw. Not a lot of people chased it. Boxcab E50
Same thing as Stampede Pass after the merger. Very few trains, some at night. Maybe one day they will re-new it and we'll see action over it.
I know whey won't let MRL have it... Saving for a rainy day? Sure is a winding route. Very curvy just out of Butte. Ken, any books like the Hundman NP book have any NP footage?
I think if they let MRL have it it would give MRL access to the UP. BN and BNSF do not want to let MRL have any other connecting roads besides them. Kevin D Mumaw
I don't have the Hundman book. Yet. It's not been in my budget. Severing Homestake and leasing of MRL, was another of those goofy stunts BN pulled under their Frisco administration. As I understand it, indeed they do not want MRL to gain access to UP, or Rarus. Although it would be an expensive, and roundabout connection. MRL occasionally runs as far west as the gravel/ballast pit at Spire Rock. However, MRL does actually have a physical outside world connection, other than BNSF. It's with the UP at Kootenai, Idaho...... But that's almost never been used. Boxcab E50
