Naw, we get them all the time down here...

But I haven't been up to Spokane in awhile. The inlaws live over in Hayden, ID, so I do shoot stuff when I get up there.

Still see "Fleet" Dash-8 6-axles on trains thru Gallup, mostly in the trailing position. They're all in pretty ragged shape- the red has faded to a grungy pink, and the silver looks like it's peeling.

That ain't no way for an old-time scheme like that to look!

As for four-axle Dash 8s, have seen at least one in yellow & blue, rest being in H1 colors.

BTW- with that news coming from Flagstaff, I may have to head down I-40 & check that action out. Where are the best places to shoot in that town?

I see those ragged Fleet units too. I'm shooting them now because they won't be around forever.
Flag is a breeze. Cosnino is the first real exit east of town. Tracks are 300 yards north of highway. That's where the signal bridge is. Really nice area to shoot, there's a nice cut to the east. If you go into town, the station is not bad but almost too close to the tracks depending on time of day. I didn't go check out Walnut Canyon road, which looks promising, but the BNSF roughly parallels I-40 anyway. Just to the west of Flag is the Arizona Divide, site of the now gone Riordan. I like to go to the divide and hear the engineers blast their horn trimuphantly upon reaching the summit. They do that when there's no one around. The divide is one of the best spots around here, IMHO. PM me for details on reaching it, kinda tricky if you are unfamiliar with the area.

    Friscobob,
If you get the chance, definately head to Flagstaff. Is worth the trip. I make a special trip out there every year for a day there. Cosnino Rd. is a great place to start, signal bridge is just to the west of the crossing, and there is a nice little cow path (access road) to the east which will take you back to the Cut Steve is describing. Walnut Canyon Rd. is the next exit to the west of Cosnino and we just found this spot this spring, GREAT SPOT!!!!
can set up on either the N. or S. of the tracks have dirt roads again on both sides of the tracks( on your left before or after the overpass after leaving the Interstate) All but a few of my BNSF photos in my album were taken in those 2 spots, Downtown Flag. is not too bad but, hard to get a good shot, partly because they are usually flying thru town
Hope you can make it up there sometime, BTW, how close are you to the airport there in Gallup?
Steve, hope you can make Walnut Canyon Rd. soon

DUH, I thought Walnut Canyon was on the West end of town, not east. No wonder I couldn't find it! Will go next time.
I'm about 3 hours away if any of you guys find yourself in the area and want to chase trains with me.

Will be back out there in March
Will get ahold of you then to find out how to get to the divide
And yes Walnut Canyon Rd. is just west of Cosnino Rd.
