I was lucky enough to catch a BNSF unit on the point of a NS train today: It was in light rain before the sky opened up... Harold
harold nice shot, ive watched trains from that same location MANY times in the past, just never had the camera on me. good job though -Rob
Rob, That is one of my favorite places in Raleigh to catch trains.... a lot of time the NS will have meets there with 349/350 plus sometimes a local switch job. Harold
Good shot of the unit going away. I notice the diamonds ahead of the locomotive, in fact there seems to be a lot of interesting trackage in that area. Is this a crossing point of two routes, or is most of the trackage industry access and yards? Also good shot of the switch machine
Alan, That is, and has been, one of my favorite railfan locations in Raleigh... it used to have an interlocking tower that controlled the diamonds... the roads were the "original" Norfolk Southern, the Seaboard Air Line, and Southern Railroad. Here's a shot of the junction, years earlier: Harold
It used to see a lot of action in its day... especially before CSX ripped out a portion of the mainline that went north from Raleigh to Richmond, Va. We used to see a lot of mainline traffic including TOFC's, but alas, that all stopped when the rails came up. Harold
