....are layed up bad order due to the turbos blowing apart at any givin' time!! Good news, all the SD75m's are returning from storage! Bad news there though, a door between the turbo and engines are letting too much heat into the engine, and shutting down the units, like the two in the last two days in the Stevens Pass tunnell!!! Oops! Dang near killed a crew up there yesterday!!

I didn't even realize that the 75s were in storage.

Well, that's one way to make a GE a low-emission locomotive- have 'em sitting dead.

    :D :D :D

Wonder if the other RRs that own GEVOs are having this problem?

A quick scan around the internet says not yet though CN is also laying theirs up.

Apparently it's a problem in the Turbo from the supplier from like 2008-2009. So it's not all Gevos. Just recently built and those that have recently gotten new turbos.

Beyond that there's a lot of EMD vs. GE foolishness on the boards.

It's like the PC vs. Mac debate except somehow more annoying.

I'm staying out of the EMD/GE argument myself, but I just couldn't resist the wisecrack I made- it was all in fun.:tb-tongue:

The ones who would really go off would be the folks who work on 'em or run 'em.

Reason I was asking was that I hadn't heard that UP and KCS were having problems with their GEVOs lately, outside of the usual failure rate of anything mechanical.

They are not layed up. I belive they are pulling them out of service one by one to check for the bad turbos. I saw several of them on trains last night at work. The Everett-Interbay transfer also had 2 SD75M's on the point.

BN is lugoing the GE Evo units until the turbo problem is fixed, you will continue to see them as it will take awhile to get them put up. The SD75'S are being brought out of storage to take their place. The problem is with two different suppliers and unfortunately the turbos will need to be replaced, which on one hand does create more jobs.

CSX and NS are definitely idling GEVOs and bringing other units out of storage to make up for the difference. Just read an article earlier today where NS stored their first 25 ES40DCs. Jamie

NS has 25 ES40DCs stored... but they're from all different orders.

There are two suppliers for the turbos, so only units with that suppliers turbo (new or replacement) are affected.

Per the notice we've been given, it applies to units built between 01/07 and 03/09 as well as any unit that has had a turbo replaced within that time frame.
