I'm only halfway thru it, but this is a must-have for any western RR buff, Santa Fe nut, or someone interested in the days before railroad dining cars!

The book is well-written, gives vivid accounts of conditions of depot cafes before the Harvey Houses, defacto history of the beginnings/operations of Harvey Houses.

This copy was borrowed from a friend, who bought it at the Harvey House museum in Belen, NM.

I just wish I could have experienced the Harvey Houses in their heyday.

The Harvey Girls: the Women Who Civilized the West.
    By Juddi Morris.

I feel the need to buy another book...

Wouldn't a time machine be great for those of us who would like to go back and see what the great days of railroading were like? :tb-sad:

If someone invents one--I don't think that I could fill a truck with enough batteries and film to bring along...
