We made a trip up to the BSVRR yesterday for a nice relaxing ride on the train! The steam is still in it's 1472 overhaul, which is a spendy and time consuming thing. They are an all volunteer outfit, that has hired a boiler certification company to help them get through the process. As of yesterday, they were working on fixing leaks from the initial water fill on the boiler! The completion is closer! So, the 1003 is used for power, a 1942 NW2! As we left the depot, we rolled by some interesting equipment,
They have a very sharp-looking RS1, and one of those ubiquitous ex-CN FP9As that have found their way all over the continent. Some nice steam too.
We went back yesterday to get a video of the display steam they have out by Hwy. 30. It makes for an impressive bit of P.R. for the railroad and the community. There is a huge amount of rail related stuff in town.
Very nice display to get your attention! It'd be awesome if they had lights on, and a steam generator at the stack, THAT would really get your attention!
