Hi Guys, Just bought an Olympus 700 Ultra Zoom digital camera. Cost me £650 (Life savings gone) that equates to $930. Been promising to replace my 35mm with digital for a long time after using a friend’s digital. This little beauty can do more than the 35mm I still have. Aperture priority, Manual focus - ISO settings, - Multi metering, - panoramic shots, Lens 5.9mm to 59.0mm f2.8 to f3.5 10 elements in 7 groups (equivalent to 38mm to 1000mm on a 35mm) - Flash On/Off - Macro mode and short movie if needed. Plus lots more I haven’t got around to reading about yet. I expect I shall be playing around with this for weeks until I get the hang of it, however, I did take three shots with it on Auto mode just to see what it was like, then took this on manual override.
That sounds like a great digital. The photo is really nice. Of course, I have been impressed by your photos that you have posted on your website (taken with a 35mm slr?). Did you scan those photos yourself? I have a modest little Canon Rebel 2000, and I would like to document my layout from start to finish and beyond. I would also like to post it all on a website if I have the time (who needs sleep). Keep up the good work! Steve
Hi Steve, Yes I did scan all the photo's I took with the 35mm camera, now thank goodness, the digital has put an end to scanning/developing/printing/cost. Here's a further three taken today 1 - Inside the sawmill 2- The sawmill complex 3 - Workers keeping warm. cheers Paul [ 04 August 2001: Message edited by: Paul Templar ]</p>
Great news Paul, I use a Olympus digital camera at work and I find it excellent to use. It will be great to see you post pictures more often
Good looking pictures. Nice, clear, and in good focus. These digital cameras are getting better every day. I have a cheap digital camera right now, just enough to make me want a much better digital camera. Since I have a several NIKON lenses, I am leaning towards a NIKON Coolpix 800. Think I am going to let some of my excess N-Scale stuff go(Model Power, Bachmann Steam, sectional track etc.) via eBay to buy the camera. INDIANA RAILWAY VP in Charge of Finance(Wife) says camera money NOT in railway budget, go earn revenue for camera purchase! Lets go run trains and take pictures too!! MARK
Those are excellent pictures, Paul. Digital cameras are certainly coming of age! My cheapo entry-level one is very good for the price, but I am now thinking of needing a more comprehensive one! The one you have sounds about right!
Thanks guys, Alan, this little beauty knocks spots off my old 35mm. Been playing around with it today taking closeup shots and panarama type. Paul
Looks like you have yourself one heck of an image grabber Paul! One great big plus for digital cameras, as you know, if you don't like the image you capture you just delete it and retake it with some adjustment(s). I'm really impressed with the resolution your photos display. I guess you *do* get what you pay for, eh? Looking forward to seeing more in the near future.
All i'm going to say is.... I WISH MY DIGITAL CAMERA WAS THAT GOOD!!!! And also have the eye to see the sight of picture I want!!!! I can't get my junk focused right to take a close picture it gets blurry and the lighting thing on mine is waaaaaay off... I guess I should invest in a good one! HA! I would if I could keep away from buying trains...
Paul, sharing your work and knowledge has been forther enhanced by the digital camera. Congradulations is in ordeer for all of us because we now receive greated detailed shots of your work. It's unbelievable seeing the details you are able to model. I didn't think nature could be captured so realistically let alone fabricating great structures and your painting skills are astounding. Thanks agaiin for picking up the camera and inspiriing us to keep marching forward to enhance our skills. Take care, Jim
Thanks all, Final photo for now, this camera has been keeping me away from modelling, Golf snd other duties around the house. The wife said if I take one more photo of the railroad, she will go down to the Grandchildrens for the day.... Hmmmmm. Paul
Hi Paul, sounds like you got a good camera, I have a Sony Cybershot with a 32 woo woo woo memory stick, it takes great photo's, how do you display photo's on this message board?
