Can the Board please provide help with the following problem:
I purchased a brass SD-40. However when the engine arrived today it was not packaged correctly and through UPS shipping the end rails on both sides of the engine were flattened against the porches of the engine. They did not break off nor did the paint flake.

Questions: Is there a recommended way to fix this? Does anyone know of someone in the Northern. Virginia area that can accomplish this repair?

Shipping the engine back is an option and the store stated that it would repair or make a refund. However the engine is desired and I'm afraid of a repeat performance.

Any help is appreciated and thanks in advance.

If it was damaged in shipping it technically is not your responsibility to correct. The plan of sending it back to the store seems to me the wisest thing to do - they should get you a replacement and then file a damage claim with the shipper.

I would press the store to more securely package the replacement unit as well as insure it.

Those darn brass units are way too expensive to let poor packaging and careless handling damage them - the store should have known better.

    Good luck!
