I need help. I am doing some scratch building and I have two long walls I would like to make brick. Does anyone know of someone who manufactures sheets of styreen bricks in N-scale. I know DPM makes their modular system but I need them in larger, thin sheets (for curves etc.). Thanks in advance for your help. Bryan
Bryan, You may also want to try Faller products, they have card sheeting of bricks walls and stone walls. Here is an example of the walls I have used on my layout.
Thanks for the help guys! Paul nice picture, do you know if Faller has a web address. I can always count on the members of this board to come through. Bryan
I'm not sure about a website Bryan but i purchase the product from my local hobby shop. I'm fairly certain it is available through Walthers. Ok I just checked and it is available on the Walthers site http://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/272-2568 [ 21 November 2001: Message edited by: Colonel ]</p>
Paul, Thanks, what size do these sheets come in. They look pretty good. In your photos they look textured but if I understand it is just printed on card stock. Did you do anything to get the texture? Bryan
You are correct they are on cardstock but they do look 3 dimensional. I guess teach sheet is approx 8 inches by 4 inches. They are great for retaining walls and bridge abutments etc. If you have a look at my website I have used different variations of the product. Here is another variation of the cardstock [ 21 November 2001: Message edited by: Colonel ]</p>
Hi Brian, Hints given by fellow modellers are good but if you are more on the cardstock/paper side (ease of cutting for windows, doors and others architectural details) I would suggest you to give your paint program a try. I have used Clarys bitmap paint program with great results, a good point is that you can achieve scale sized brick with it, one thing Faller embossed cardstock doesn't give IMHO(their N-scale brick sheet is perfect for HO however) You could print directly on heavier paper or glue the printed sheet on bristol card. With a paint program, you can control the color of every brick (to simulate an older or newer wall)and even the color of mortar! Start with a small square, make a ramdom pattern for your brick shades, then copy and paste, untill you have an entire sheet. then you can always weather your wall with chalks and seal it with a solvent based matt varnish (not mandatory if you don't plan to use water based paint or glue on your wall) I guess you will like the results. Hope this helps, marc
Brian, The British company Slaters also make 330x220mm sheets of embossed styrene in brick and stone patterns. They do have N Scale (2mm) sized brick that is quite fine. All others are 4mm (OO/HO) and 7mm (O) but the 4mm range is very useful in N. Link to their product line - http://www.slatersplastikard.com/products.htm Gary.
Bryan, have you seen the article on scanning and printing brick decals by John Nehrich in the December 2001 Model Railroader on page 78? Although it does not address your question directly, it does give an interesting alternative to buying "ready-made" materials. Also you could correspond with Corey Lynch ( lynchc@rpi.edu ) who is the Student President of the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) Model Railroad Club, with which John Nehrich has been involved for a very l-o-n-g time. You guys are awesome. I went by my local shop and looked at the Plastruct product, even purchase a set of smooth stucco. I have thought about making my own sheets on card stock because it wouldn't be that hard for me since I have the resources at my disposal. I would really like to have some sort of texture. I am going to try a couple of these options and I will let you all know what I think, maybe I will even post a picture of the finished product. Once angain, thanks for all your suggestions! Keep it up I will be checking the board form more info. Bryan
