I know we've talked before about what color brick buildings are. But what colors did people used to paint the first floors of brick buildings, way back when?

I know many buildings' first floors are the same color as the stonework in upper floors. The first floors of many buildings, however, were painted.

But what color? Almost all of the old photos or watercolors I can find show them painted in a kind of whitened green color or else in a darker green. And from my childhood, that's the only color I can really remember (besides gray, beige, or tan stone). I did find one photo showing a reddish-brown facade.

I assume that the green was available, inexpensive, and durable, but also that people thought the color combination of earth-colors and green couldn't be beat. But was that it for colors back then? Did someone occasionally use gray, white, brown, navy blue, or sky blue?

I'm modeling 1962, but I am very interested in any colors going back to the 30's and 40's as well.
