Today I was out railfanning and my theme ended up being BRIDGES. Here are some of my favorite shots from bridges and including bridges. Lets see your favorite bridge shots: From a Bridge: Including a Bridge:
From a bridge: Looking down on the CSX yard in Manchester, GA EB UP stacker coming up Archer Hill out of Cheyenne, WY East of Gallup, NM on the BNSF Transcon
The Mighty Mo, with the GN depot in Great Falls standing silently: Insert westbound here! Latah Creek trestle in Spokane, WA is huge and high. It has a wye at the west end, where the Steven's Pass line splits from the Gorge/Stampede Pass route: Matched Warbonnets in Sept 2007, from the Livingston exit on I-90: I wasn't fast enough to drive to Rainbow bridge near Great Falls, to catch this westbound, the local to Ft Benton, MT; a tail-end shot will have to do!
The southern approach to the bridge over the Monzen River, Iwakuni, Japan From the 24th Street overpass, the snow-covered platform side of Ogden Union Station, Ogden, Utah UP 6165 leads a westbound load of concrete ties across the Coast-to-Coast bridge at Yuma, AZ.
What is that behind the roof? A couple auxiliary tenders, some silver things, a gondola, more silver things. Okay... looks like the left "silver things" might be a Vandy tender and a big hook. The right ones... another Vandy and a rotary?
With an apology to Satokuma, I have to post this link to one of his photos in Railimages. One of my favorite locations and favorite locomotives, Michael did a great job capturing the 4449 coming across the Columbia River a few weeks ago. http://www.trainboard.com/railimages/data/1840/SP4449atColumbiaDraw.jpg
Triplex: There are a couple of tenders from UP Turbines there and a rotary snow plow, UP 9008617. The station is now used as a museum complex, including the Utah State Railroad Museum (see http://theunionstation.org/museums.html). Here's a shot from inside the station (the outdoor exhibits were closed when I went). The overpass I took the photo from is visible in the distance to the left of the rotary.
Thanks Fitz for the callout...I should have shared much earlier. SP4449 highballs across the Columbia Drawbridge on its way to Longview, Wa. June 2008.
Hearne, Texas. From Highway 6 overpass bridge. Brazos River bridge in Richmond, Texas. NS bridge in Bonsack, VA. Lift bridge on the Ohio River, Louisville, KY.
Cape Cod Cannal Lift Bridge Ther4e was a very heavy breeze blowing: Ok, um, er, well, yep, that's the issue. Maybe the heat bent the light and it came in crooked. Doesn't show as much from this angle:
Needham Heights Branch of the MBTA - Between Forest Hills and Roslindale Of historical note from Wikipedia: Boston to Providence on the Northeast Corridor - Taken from Blakemore Road in Roslindale. Not a great site for viewing as it has those "anti viewing" fences up so tight you can't push a pebble through. Arggggg!
Misc Roslindale Station Outbound: - The locomotive always stops on the bridge with the rest of the train along the platform. Pedestrian Bridge Roslindale Station:: Quite the sound to be under the bridge as the train growls overhead. More from Blakemore
A famous spot in California from my past This is a familiar spot to a lot of railfans that I got a shot of in the late 1980's at Frost, CA when it was still ATSF instead of BNSF: Mike East Texas Belt Longview, TX
Steve - I love the picture. Something about all of the lines receding to a vanishing point off to the right along with a sense of history moving on.
