More great stuff, Alan. I am trying to remember if I ever actually visited Basingstoke, or only saw road signs enroute to Farnborough. Wasn't Andy Capp from Basingstoke?

Thought Andy was from up north, like Manchester or similar. :)

I'm about half way through scanning 40 years' worth of colour slides, and the device is threatening to retire. I have an Epson scanner/copier/printer, but it's no use for slides or negatives. The photo scanner will do slides or negatives, but I've none of the latter to bother with. Please advise brand and approx co$t of the device in your armoury!

    Regards,

    Pete

My old scanner (which I did the slides on) gave up the ghost and I now have a Canon LED type scanner, which is superb for prints, etc. but does not do slides. But as I have no more of them to do it is not a problem.

Proper dedicated slide scanners are the best, but can be very expensive. Maybe a search of ebay would be beneficial. ;)

Alan, I will say again that I am envious of your photo talents and foresight in taking all of these wonderful shots at such a tender age. I am sure that many in the UK are thankful as well.

Thanks Jim - the steam galleries are some of the most visited on my Fotopic site. I am pleased I did capture as much as I did, but wish it had been more.

A bit of 'live' steam seen at Carlisle in June 1967. Plus alas, many stored locomotives.

This was the only Britannia which had eluded me all those years, but I finally cleared the class. 8)

I have a Minolta Dimage slide scanner that I picked up on ebay a few years back. It can be slow progress, I'd have liked a quicker one but as said before they can be v pricey. I'll dig out the model number when I next stick my head in the loft. Produces good results though i spent quite a while fiddling to get the optimum settings. Haven't looked at the market recently but would imagine things have moved on.
