A wonderful example of "You Dooze What You Gotta Dooze" to get the job done. Great photo, Roger, and of things that rarely get shown. Thanks!
Ah yes, I have seen a photo of that diesel fuel tank car (or one like it) in Wayner's "New York Central Cars". It was home-built on top of flat car 499354. Now here is a photo of one in use.
Roger, was that for the early diesels? The beginning of the diesel infrastructure and the beginning of the end of the steam infrastructure. Very interesting the way the Central, and other railroads, came up with innovative solutions to situations. Off topic, I have always wondered what the correct pronunciation of Bucyrus is, am I close with "byue-cy-russ?" :tb-confused:
The natives called it bucky - russ. When I was going to Crestline I was kidding a native and he whispered in my ear , we natives call it ,bucky russ. LEW
LEW, that's what I assumed it was at the tender age of 7 viewing the monster equipment involved in the rerouting of the Central's Gulf Curve at Little Falls, NY, with "Bucyrus" labels all over them.
