There was no way I could have a finished layout in time for the Open House in November. So, I made a training aid to show non-modelers how easy it is to build a layout. Most non-modelers are so overwhelmed by our lovely elaborate layouts, they convince themselves they could never do it. Thus, the goal of my exhibit.
The exhibit was a great success, especially with young parents.

That's a Marklin donation on the left and a Fleischmann donation on the right.

    Overall View.....

Then here are the six steps arranged on the brown square in the lower right of the overall view.

C'Mon, please don't enlarge my head more than it was.
Had one single Mom (assumed) say to her 8-10 yr old son, "Billy, Im gona build this in your bedroom when we get home."
Man, it doesn't get any better than the pleasure it gives other people that's important.

Nice work on this, your right-people get overwhelmed when they see these elaborate layouts. It's good to show the basics in step-by-step progress so to help when building your dream layout.

    Well done, Sir!(y)

A great idea. It even gives me some ideas on how I could go. One question: what kind of track did you use. I'm will be starting with Kato thanks to another board members help.

The left side is Marklin three-rail track. The right side is Bachmann nickel-silver (gray roadbed) except for the crossing which is Bachmann steel (black roadbed). The donated Fleischmann track had been under salt water during Hurricane Katrina, thus damaged beyond repair.

I was chided for using American track on a German (Fleischmann) layout. I told them that Bachmann is a German name, so there!
