It is sad how we have lost too many of those SKILLED laborers, who made such wonderous things. By comparison, today's "skilled" labor simply does not have the raw talents those people possessed. These days most skilled people rely on machines and computer aids to control the processes. Which is quite different from using the expereince of years, pure brains and eyes, to judge progress. I certainly agree with folks from Europe and elsewhere, who are astounded by our tendency to put people from colleges up first on a pedestal. I agree we have it backwards. The journey labor folks should be held in much higher esteem.
