Hi All - my layout has progressed to the details stage, so I want to add some interiors to some empty buildings. I’m seeking advice on software that could be used to draw interiors (drawing, using clip art, photos, vector images) that could be printed and placed in a building.

And if not software, who might sell pre-printed sheets of details like doors, furniture, etc. I’m an N-scaler and I haven’t had much luck scouring the internet for that kind of stuff. It must exist somewhere because Woodland Scenics have printed interiors.

I have also looked at Roomette’s Lighting and I will likely get their N scale assortment for the upper floors of my buildings. Their ground floor businesses aren’t what I’m looking for, hence this thread.

I appreciate any info you may have - thanks!

For the most part, I've scoured the interwebs for images of store or building interiors, and scaled them down to N scale size and printed them on photo paper. I always have a slight curve (size and cut the paper a little wider than the building space) to help with an illusion of depth. I also look for images that already have a sense of perspective to them. I sometimes place n scale figures inside in an appropriate placement (a 'manikin' in a dress shop window, for example).

It takes time but with a CAD program like Fusion 360 and quite a bit of time you can design and print some interiors like the interior for a freight transfer building shown above and below.

I did the above for this N Scale building...

that you can print. More lnfo here and also links to the print files....

So after messing around trying to draw an interior similar to what Woodland Scenics does and looking for a suitable photograph, I threw up my hands and decided to try and create a 3d interior. Here is one I created in Sketch Up - it will be a bank interior for the DPM Crestone Credit Union building. For N scale, I think it's more than detailed enough - that said, I'll take any constructive criticism upload_2021-12-15_15-31-8.png

Pretty nifty! I haven't done anything with 3D printing myself, but I've been impressed with the results I've seen here and in person at conventions.

I went through the trouble of adding interiors to some of my buildings. Two things I learned: 1. In order to see anything beyond what’s immediately inside windows, the building needs lights. 2. Even with lights, anything beyond what’s immediately inside the windows is difficult to make out.
Therefore, my experience has been that simple representations are all that are really needed inside my buildings. And figures. Those help a lot! (I bought some cheapies sold on an auction site - 100 for $6 - and painted them up for this purpose.)
Having said all that... if your buildings are right near the edge of the layout, they may be more visible and therefore need a higher level of detail.

PS: CBQguy: I think your interior design is perfect!
