I saved several small Christmas lights and their leads from a otherwise good light set that had a broken plug. Could these be safely utilized to light my building interiors with or without modifications?

Absolutely! Go to Radio Shack and get yourself some 470 ohm resistors. You will need come basic soldering skills for the project. This will bring the voltage down to 1.5 volts going through the bulb or LED, depending on which one you have. This assumes you have a 12 volt DC power supply to power your lighting circuit. Or, you divide 12 volts by 1.5 and wire (8) 1.5 volt bulbs in series, which equals 12 volts and surprise, you've got cheap lights for buildings. I've been doing it for years.
