It's always nice to find another Z layout at a show when you are out exhibiting. Such was the case with the recent Keighley Model railway exhibition in West Yorkshire in England. I was there with Republic Steel running in British Railways form and Chris Wright was there with his Japanese Bullet trains layout.
Keighley show usually co-incides with the Keighley and Worth Valley Spring Steam gala. I called in there on the Friday before setting up the layout and noticed some of the other exhibitors had the same idea and were riding on the trains

An idea of the spectacle on offer, there is a thread on the International railways section if you want to know more

    So

Chris's layout runs Rokuhan Shinkansens with the added drama of sporadic thunder and lightning effects. At one end of the layout he was running one of the little Rokuhan shorty layouts as well.

He has got one of the 'Hello Kitty' Shinkansens to add a bit of colour

He contacted me today to tell me that he has already ripped this layout apart to make major changes!

Republic doesn't need much introduction really. I've been working on rolling stock recently with rakes of BR modern air braked freight stock and finishing the second Class 37

As example of what I've been up to is this rake of railfreight wagons that worked the steel coils from Cardiff Rod mill up to South Yorkshire with some unique hooded four wheel wagons mixed in with the examples where the loads were exposed to the elements.

Note this picture was taken back in the workshop not at the show as I have my added grass foreground board in place which makes picture composition easier.

in other news my beloved 'Layout Barge' the Nissan X-trail has bit the dust after clouting a contractors van at work. Republic was built to fit into it along with the lighting rig and toolboxes etc and I've already replaced it with a later version, Hope it all fits!
