Finishing up some final details but pretty much complete. The headlight lenses look weird because I'm using Micro Kristal Clear and it hasn't set completely. _A997194.jpg _A997194.jpg _A997197.jpg _A997198.jpg

I've seen some conflicting stories online regarding this locomotive. Apparently 1961 and 65 were closely related from a natural gas engine refit program. Were those two locomotives operated together, or were they independent programs?

This locomotive appears to be off BNSF/BN roster by the late 90's, now CRSX 1965. I like how they kept the BN lettering, but color swapped it to make a new paint scheme.

Thanks for the info. I looked at a lot of pictures to try and get this right. It may not be 100% but I'm happy with it. The CRSX pics show the best detail for the windows and door on the short hood but I couldn't find any clear pics on the roof and exhausts. Seems like it's been with and without a strobe, antennas, and several different horns.

Different programs, 1965 was to add space for additional crew members for when cabooses were removed, but trains still had 5 person crews.

Five people in the cab on a GP9?

So they're in the same vein as the BQ23-7 and GP50 Quarters Cab units. Extra space for crews on cabooseless trains...

(I'll keep my caboose, thank you...)

Yep, and all of the BN ordered GP50s had 5 seats in the cab, so BN 3110-3162, just the last 5 had the extended cab, which gave the crew room for racks to put their grips.
