Tonight I stopped by my second home, UP's Butler Yard. The sun had just set, and some red signals stopped train MPRIT. Train MPRIT had the following power: UP #3775 and a SP tunnel motor # 8531 with the "Southern Pacific" painted off. Over by the fueling pad, there wer numerous UP locomotives and a NS unit(another NS sighting). There was also a Duluth bound grain train waiting for departure. BUT the rare sighting was this:
I saw what looked like a yellow bus with a red "cow catcher". It was a UP locomotive of some sort, but I didn't have the Binoculars so I couldn't see the number. Does anybody know what kind of locomotive this is?

Possibly a track geometry car? I remember my brother described seeing a "huge bus-like train with lots of windows" and that's what i figured it was cause i remember seeing an Overland model picture... [IMG]

It is probably a Speno car it is used to detedt rail flaws etc. they run along the line and use ultrasonics to check for hairline cracks or broken crossings

Thanks tunnel! Thanks Paul! I'd never seen one in real life, or even in a magazine before, so it was a surprise. But now, thanks to you guys, I know what it is [IMG]
