Tonight I stopped by my second home, UP's Butler Yard. The sun had just set, and some red signals stopped train MPRIT. Train MPRIT had the following power: UP #3775 and a SP tunnel motor # 8531 with the "Southern Pacific" painted off. Over by the fueling pad, there wer numerous UP locomotives and a NS unit(another NS sighting). There was also a Duluth bound grain train waiting for departure. BUT the rare sighting was this: I saw what looked like a yellow bus with a red "cow catcher". It was a UP locomotive of some sort, but I didn't have the Binoculars so I couldn't see the number. Does anybody know what kind of locomotive this is? ------------------ Drew WISCONSIN CENTRAL LTD.
Possibly a track geometry car? I remember my brother described seeing a "huge bus-like train with lots of windows" and that's what i figured it was cause i remember seeing an Overland model picture...
It is probably a Speno car it is used to detedt rail flaws etc. they run along the line and use ultrasonics to check for hairline cracks or broken crossings ------------------ Regards Paul Cassar-# Member number 50 SPAD Investigator #1 ICQ 61198217 http://users.bigpond.net.au/railroad2000
Thanks tunnel! Thanks Paul! I'd never seen one in real life, or even in a magazine before, so it was a surprise. But now, thanks to you guys, I know what it is ------------------ Drew WISCONSIN CENTRAL LTD.
