At least your plywood has more color and figure than my bare HCD. But the foam board layer over it will have exciting pink wild animals on it!
I spot at least one structure from the old days, on your layout - the Bachmann (or it used to be, anyway) schoolhouse with playground equipment. Mine is on my layout, too, without the base. It's in the background in the picture, hard to find. Doug
Way better mockup, not as busy. Too many streets in the other one and too cluttered Maybe next photo will have some trees, maybe? With just basically a outer loop and an inner loop, you would think the locomotives and rolling stock would stay on the tracks, but NO, that's not how this works Silly model railroad hobby What's funny is it was working fine, till the train ghost came around and screwed things up
I've discovered that an unforeseen benefit of HCDs over open frame benchwork is that if you spill glue or paint, it merely lays atop the foam board and is a cinch to wipe up.
I didn't think the Hollow Core door would be up too long, but it's already been taken down to put my space saving 2'x4' module backup And I can attach my second 2'x4' module for an L when I want too. Which I do not do very often at all. Oh well, at least I gave it a shot! Or did I?
Older picture but basically the two modules! The L is NOT up very often. Just the base in the background.
I really like the way you tied the tracks together between the modules, providing both operational and visual interest.
Thanks, I'll have to hook the L up soon as I was cleaning up the attic this week and found some of my N Scale train totes that had gotten buried by, you know, attic stuff Plus it's basically Fall which is when we start to work on our layout's anyway. Well, most of us do at this time of year when the yard work, cooking out, etc... start to wind down I'd like to check the wiring, clean it up a bit, actually work on some scenery, etc... but I am you know, lazy Maybe I'll get motivated soon?
The L shaped layout looks great. It makes the layout way bigger and adds lots of visual and operating interest.
