I tried a search, but no joy... forgive me if this has been asked a thousand times. I'm looking to custom paint some locomotives in a scheme "inspired by" the C&O (the storyline goes it's a shortline that's under the "wing" of the C&O but has its own name)... Can y'all tell what typeface(s) the "Chesapeake & Ohio" on the side of the C&O locomotives in the "blue with white trim" paint scheme were? Example locos: http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1209888 It looks a little bit like MicroScale's "Union Paficic" style but not quite... Did they ever use Roman on their Diesels? Thanks!
The font is called Futura Here is a place that has Futura alphabet decals in futura in different colors http://www.mgdecals.com/futura.htm Check this picture out
It seems "Chesapeake & Ohio" has a serif font and Futura has no Serif. Just looking at it. I would think the "C&O" is Futura but the "Chesapeake & Ohio" is some other font.
I think I read that the older font is Railroad Roman but I'm not sure... there's clearly two different fonts used at different times... @Oldrk... that is one beautiful loco. Thanks for the pic - and the link. Now I have to decide *which* font to use...
I remember reading the no-serif font was something like Demi Futura Bold. Some railroads still use that font, like some power companies. Here's a link to a random photo of an ETRX car to illustrate what I mean: http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1832496
