And now we've sped to a crawl, still following the slow freight that cut us off. Now only 6 from SAC but not expected until 1:50. .... And we stopped again. :tb-hissyfit:
I must say that I am very impressed with my cell phone coverage this trip. I've had about 95% coverage from Reno to Sacramento so far. Coverage through Colorado was spotty still, but even then it was stil improved from my last trip. 1:44 and we finally started moving again. Probably wont reach Sacramento Station until 2pm now. I think we're still ahead of schedule though.
Eastbound track takes a route on the right side of the westbound track. Moments later is when I catch Train #6 on this very track.
Benicia-Martinez bridge over the Carquinez Strait. The longest steel rail bridge west of the Mississippi River.
And now entering a stretch of track made famous by OC Engineer JD's almost exact N Scale remake! The water side run along Pinole!
The very tips of the tall Golden Gate Bridge towers are seen off in the distance. Richmond in 4 minutes. Exactly on time.
The last 5 miles takes the longest. The bus has departed Emeryville. Next time I see you will be from the comfort of home. Hope you have enjoyed riding the California Zephyr with me!!
Picture time! Here are my favorite photos taken with my Canon camera. We start off at Denver Union Station where we see the new construction springing up. As we depart, the sun reflects from the yard And of course, there's that burned out locomotive that has been sitting their for years! (I dont believe it has moved an inch since I saw it on my very first train ride!) Here's some engines in better shape though.
After the relatively uneventful trip through Denver, we come to the big ten curves! Here we are exiting them. And here is the tunnel we'll go through in a few minutes. Around the corner, I saw some weird fires being burned. Anyone have any idea why? Not long after that, we reached Gore Canyon.
Here's our power And here's our tail Gore Valley from the far side (I want to say looking to the Northeast?)
