Maybe RailAmerica or another company like it might purchase it. Our experience in British Columbia Canada is a positive one with RailAmerica. They have taken an old dumpy rail line - the E&N - and made it more profitable, viable, with improved maintance and motive power.

I forgot to mention that CP was running it before and doing a very poor job of it.

RailAmerica has more on their plate than they can handle. D&H under CP for the most part is not as bad as everyone makes it out to be. D&H is strategic in Canadian Pacifics Expressway Plans. Montreal-New York City for these new trains. The New York and Atlantic yard deal would not be announced if the railroad was to be left high and dry.

The D&H is no E&N, E&N was isolated from the rest of the system. Traffic base was not in CPR's long term goals. D&H is, NYC needs more than just the railroads that are there. Its called Competition.

Also its called deferred maintenance, an example from this area is Goderich-Exeter Railway, many it would not make sense, CN giving up its route north of London Ontario to a shortline. Yes it was a main, yes it runs Via passenger trains. It still does. Deferred maintenance was the problem with it.

Hence the reason to sell. CN will reroute trains there if necessary, as part of the agreement. There is another line in Ontario another RA property that is doing the same on the former CP Sudbury-Smiths Falls Main line.

Can you explain what you meant by "deferred maintaince?" I know in general what the term means, but specifically, what was deferred that affected CN?
