What’s the general feeling on these? I’d like to give one a try but would like some feedback. I’ve never built anything remotely hand laid and these seem like a good way to give it a try.
Merry Christmas to all and best of health.

I built a few several years ago, I could never get the points to work right. I later discovered Fast Tracks jigs and never looked back. I still have a couple CV kits I’d like to try to chop up and use with the fast tracks builds.

The points are cast metal instead of regular extruded or machined rail. The biggest issue is the plastic frog. Most modern RTR switches have a metal frog, and by the time you upgrade all the parts in the Central Valley kit, the cost benefit is pretty much lost. You can get off-the-shelf switches for about the same price that operate more reliably.

The main benefit to the CV kits is that they are flexible. If you need a custom curved turnout, an otherwise difficult piece of track to make, the flexible base makes it a lot easier to maintain curve radii.

If they interest you, there's no harm in buying a few and testing them out. They are pretty inexpensive, so having to rip them out isn't a big loss if you don't like them.

I may have a spot for a slightly curved turnout. That is what made me look at them. Trying to have the track go in such a way that a curved turnout isn't required.
