There is a locomotive produced in USSR and widely used in Soviet Union/Russia, East Germany, Hungary, Poland and maybe some more countries. In Poland we called it Gagarin, with official symbol ST44. The general look after some reconstructions is like this:

German fellow modeller designed 3D Shapeways shell for the locomotive:

He could not find the proper chassis to be used. The shell fits Marklin BR 110. The problem is that BR110 has 2 axles on each truck and original locomotive has 3 axles.

The unrecognized area is to use commercially available chassis of US locomotive. The total length of ST44 is 17,55 meters. Do you have any ideas which US model could be used ?

Maybe you can try to shorten a BR151 chassis.
