After reading the topic "50 people in my trainroom" and owing to my own experience this year how many people are sorta scrambling to get a little something done on their layouts in time for Christmas visitors to view? I know since the last time my father (the other modeler in the family) was over I hadn't done much so while i'm off this next week I'm doing major work on the layout to make it look a little more finished for guests and what not. I've extended it, put a nice 1x4 poplar fascia on it, laid all the track and will have the cork down and 90% of the wiring done so that I can operate it for those watching. Everyone seems to love the fact that I can run two trains at the same time (inner and outter loop). So anyone else getting geard up for the 'Christmas Rush'?
Not so much work on the layout but the room will need to be cleaned in preperation for Christmas as we have 20 family members coming over the day after Christmas and we use the layout room to place food etc. So I think i'll be spending a few evenings after work cleaning the room.
The big rush was a few weeks ago for me, getting ready for the Xmas party--and then not touching anything, lest I fixed it until it was broke. My main client shuts down between Xmas and New Year's and, this year, I can actually shut down with them! We'll have a roaring New Year's party with non-train friends that love to operate my trains (and are getting hooked). So I have a week after Xmas to make some improvements in my track plan, and put some decoders in, and do some scenery. I'm looking forward to this, although I expect a last minute scramble, as always, to get everything operational again.
Since CityRail doesn't shut down during holidays, I'll be playing with big trains on Xmas day .... think of the money Modelling wise, continue on projects already started such as a Walthers Furniture Factory and a DPM Hotel for the Club layout, build some shelving for the room and build layout on top of shelves. That's about it so far...
