Trying to find a good paint to do vehicle grills and wheels on some 3D printed school buses and trucks that I have acquired. I know there is a chrome spray paint but I'm wondering if it would look right scaled down to 1:160. There is silver as well as aluminum color paint but again would they appear right? I'm thinking a gloss silver might work or maybe a regular spray can chrome paint with a Dullcote or matte overspray to tone it down somewhat. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I think chrome looks fine. Some of the vehicles Classic Metals has produced have chrome bumpers on them. I have a chrome paint pen I use for painting details on some 28mm miniatures as well as scale model cars and it works well. I apply it over a black primer or flat black paint. If you want it toned down a bit there are several acrylic silvers in the Vajello Model and Game paints that would work too. I don't like spraying a flat over silvers it always come out looking a bit weird to me. But that's just me. I'm no expert by any means. If I want a flat I grab some Tamiya flat aluminum either in the little jars or in the spray. Which reminds me I need to finish those Sunrise Enterprises trucks I started working on a while back. thanks.....

By no means am I an expert but will share my experience with "chrome". I agree with Wolf regarding the pens as I have used the Molotow for quite some time but my experience has been the shine reduces considerably after clear coating. That may be my choice of clear coat, most likely.

I ordered and have use a product from "Green Stuff World" that is chrome metal. They have it for brush application or airbrush. I have always applied the chrome paint, pens or airbrush, over a glossy black base. Here is a comparison applied on two cabs that I am currently working on :

As info the base colors are from Tru-Color, all I use. The black is their High Gloss Midnight Black and the white is High Gloss Arctic White. The chrome effect appears to be pretty much the same on the 2 different base coats.

Now the sealing coat will come up pretty quick, so I must keep my fingers off of the chrome for fear of dulling it. I have been using Alclad AQUA GLOSS CLEAR, ALC600. I will test it some more before applying as I am like George regarding chrome shine.

Here is another image of the black tractor which is for my Earnhardt Sr NASCAR hauler :

I agree on the pens........much easier to use than trying to mask and spray (or brush). I have a chrome pen, as well as metallic silver, gold, and copper. I rarely clear/dull coat unless I'm trying to seal decals or I need to get the flat finish because I couldn't find the color I needed in a flat paint.

Molotow and most other chromes do not take to clear coating. The only one I've had luck with is the alclad system which is airbrushed applied and way too complex for a scale this small. I have recently started using green stuff world brush on chrome which is more durable than molotow when it comes to dulling as a result of handling so it doesn't need a clear coat. Much cheaper too.
