Well all that big, up-to-date stuff is nice but I still kinda' like the branch line stuff from the 60's and 70's

This mixed is waiting at the station in Hearst while the power for the day (four SW1200RS's) moves around to the front of the train. In the meantime a few westbound passengers will likely keep warm around the old pot belly stove in the coach section.

Not shown in the photo are four bulkhead flats and a single 40' boxcar. This would make a GREAT model.

    Enjoy....

Good to see a passenger car and a caboose together [IMG]

(I nearly said cool picture, but cold picture would be more appropriate!) :D

    Your right!

That coach and coboose make a far better EOT than a flashing light.

    Progress :(

Here's a "mixed" train on the old CNR Cowichan Sub at the northern and western Terminus of Youbou, circa 1931 the very year it was discontinued.

Second, here's the same "mixed train" near Colwood, the field on the left is now a cemetary. I know this because I lived for 11 years not far from here.

It'll be a long time before you see a plastic model of that ol' girl in your local hobby shop.

Fun to scratch though. I expect you couldn't buy a single part. Well maybe the number boards and the marker lights.

    Thanks for the pics

Hey Dave, I remember riding the "Doodlebugs" when I was a kid. Do you know anything about the gas motor in it? I remember we counted four time the motorman shifted gears on the Bug, so I was wondering if this car had gears, or was gas electric?

I can't tell you about these but you can be sure someone on the CNLines forum will have a complete history on them.

    Cheers

The two photos I posted, the cars had the nickname "Galloping Goose,"(much like the Rio Grande Galloping Geese)this was the second car replacing a gas-electric railbus. This Goose (the 15810, replacing the 15830)came into service in 1924 and was the last passenger train in 1931. It was a Gas-hydraulic much the same as a Budd RDC(which was diesel hyraulic).

The park that now occupies the ROW from Victoria to Sooke approx. 56 km is called the Galloping Goose Regional trail.
