Hi guys, I have a couple of questions for the guys working in LA. I'm looking at changing careers and wondered what life is like for the guys working out of the LA terminal. What are the schedules like for the bottom guy.....do you have hard days off during the month? What is a typical day like for you. How is the pay determined, by mileage/hour...I have no rail experience so I don't understand how they pay you, or what days off you are alloted.
What does it mean to be "marked up"? I live in Temecula, how long would it take me to get a yard closer...say San Bernadino. What can I expect along to lines of pay for the first year.
Is health insurance provided from day one? How much are union dues, I pay about $1200 a year right now.

Right now I work for the airlines and I get about 13-16 days off a month but the rest of the time I'm away from home. I want to see my kids grow up......

If someone could give me a cut and dry view of what I would be looking at if I took this job (pay/work rules/holiday/ furlough) it would be very helpful in making my decision.

Thanks in advance, and sorry for all the questions!
