COOL I AM HAPPY Athearn News, June 19, 2000 Good Day! Today is a milestone of sorts. We reached exactly 3,000 subscribers to the Athearn News today! We are gratified that there is worldwide support for our products. There is another big change happening here today on the production line. Because of the tremendous success of the new SD40-2 drive train, we are converting the AC4400 and C44-9W drives to include the hexed flywheels and dog bones, starting with today’s production. The first units to have this new drive will be the KCS AC4400’s, shipping at the end of this month. These new drives are MUCH quieter and smoother than our traditional drive system. We know that one question that will be asked, is when will the components be available separately. We don’t have a firm answer on that, because we are using all of the precision machined flywheels to make complete units. We will probably have parts available this fall. September Production We sent a listing of our September production to distributors last week. Today we are trying something new. Listed below, for public use, is our planned production for September 2000. If you want some of the items listed below, please contact your favorite store. They should contact the distributors, who will in turn order from Athearn. We don’t sell factory direct, so be sure to contact your hobby store. Because of our production capacity, we’ll probably not make these items again until the middle of next year. Please bear with us on the format of the information listed below. We aren’t sure how to get this spread sheet into e-mail, and this is our first attempt. (It looks fine when we write it, but it looks completely different when you get it). WEB PAGE One of the "most asked" questions during the past few weeks has been "When are you going to update your web page?" We are very happy to say that we have a new web page designer/graphic artist starting next week, and we should see changes and updates to our web page within the first week. GENESIS SD75M We are shipping the second road number and the no number version of the ATSF SD75M’s this week! Look for them in stores late next week or sooner. GENESIS AVAILABILITY We still have some Genesis SD70M-SD75M’s and USRA 2-8-2’s in our warehouse and available. If you want any of these units, contact your favorite store. It is likely that we won’t make any of these again this year, so get ‘em now. SEABOARD AIRLINE 2-8-2’s We have asked Microscale to make decals for the SAL 2-8-2’s to provide the SAL shield on the cab side. We’ll have them in the next week or so, and we’ll send them to distributors who received the locomotives. We are asking the distributors forward them to the dealers, who will have them for the locomotives that have been sold. Contact us direct if your store doesn’t get the decals within the next month. Enough for today? We hope that this additional information is useful. Athearn, Inc. ------------------ marshall
AHHH and just weeks after I got my first C44-9W! ------------------ Theres no such thing as having to many coal hoppers or GP40-2 when you model Chessie System LONG LIVE THE KITTEN!!! LONG LIVE BIG BLUE!!!
Does Athearn always produce this much stuff? That list is huge-but I have noticed that some of it was already out, and Walthers said they have alot of it in stock, so why are they rerunning it? Happy Railroading!! Dane N. ------------------ BC Rail King TAMR2860@Canada.com for TAMR info. BCRailKing@Canada.com
This stuff is always avable its just that not all of it is made at the same time. Athearn activates certant molds when the supply for that car is low or demand is high. ------------------ Theres no such thing as having to many coal hoppers or GP40-2 when you model Chessie System LONG LIVE THE KITTEN!!! more news!today is a Good day! If we have sent this twice, we apologize. Our computer got confused. The last Athearn News listed our proposed production schedule for September. Several readers have asked for our schedule between now and them. We are happy to oblige. Please note that this is a "production schedule" and not an announcement of new product. Also, although we have these items scheduled, we cannot guarantee that they will be made at a specific time. Stuff happens here that can change our schedule. We also reserve the right to not produce items that don't have enough demand to warrant production. (That means that if they don't get ordered we probably won't make them). Listed below is our locomotive production schedule for the next three months. We'll list our rolling stock list in the next few days. Athearn, Inc. PS About those "F" units that folks ask about. The Genesis F Unit project is moving ahead. Slowly. We estimate delivery of the first units to be later this year. We don't have specific dates or a more specific estimate right now, because there are still many unfinished issues that need to be handled. We appreciate everybody's patience. We think that they will be well worth the wait. ------------------ marshall
Hmm, with this new genesis series is Athearn gonna continue to produce the normal stuff? I mean it is obvious that they are rerunning stuff that has already been done in the past-but what about making some new models. They have done the AC4400CW, so why not follow it up with the SD90MAC, or AC6000CW. Well, I guess not the SD90, but the SD90-43MAC locomotive. It would be a blow to HO right where it hurts if you guys lost Athearn. They are the people that really give HO its edge over N scale, as we don't really have cheap, but good quality locomotives available for starters. Happy Railroading!! Dane N. ------------------ BC Rail King TAMR2860@Canada.com for TAMR info. BCRailKing@Canada.com
I figure the reason that Athearn is not making the SD90MAC is due to the fact that not that many rr's are using them due to the engine problems. Eventhough there is a high demand for a HO scale SD90MAC. ------------------ marshall
