I built the HO "Flowers by Terry" building. I put styrene glue in areas and pressed the now cut up window plastic in place...The sheets have a kind of hazy look about them, or kind of say, frosted...Directions merely say "now is time to install the glass" (which it isn't as it's quite tough to paint the sashes, frames and sills when the 'glass' is already in..). It was a blessing in disguise that I WRONGLY used styrene, not having GOO because after all had dried I noticed what looked like glue unrealistically in the panes as if pressing caused glue to moosh over into visible area. I now pulled them back out as I was unhappy with it all..THEN, I looked much closer and the clear plastic had a seperate layer peeling off a smidge..What is this !!? The directions don't point this out. I then began flicking/grazing my finger across all the cut pieces' edges and all the pieces turned out to have a thin thin layer of saran wrap-like coating sticking to them !! I got it all off and now had what was miniature real glass pane stock, not frosted looking.
If you have any of these kits made or not, do what I did..Each piece does NOT look or even feel like there is this coating. But be persistant, sliding your finger across the edges and it begins to come off !!
Maybe I'm just discovering now something everyone already knows !! But I'll bet many of you don't and even have built- up structures on your layout with 'frosted' glass in them having not known this either !!
It seems, to me, anyway, that too many directions with many kit/structures/electronic items in the hobby are really lacking sometimes, assuming too much. am I alone ?
