I need to confirm the name of a company that was merged into The Big Four. Was it:

    Indiana, Bloomington & Western Railway?

    Or

    Indianapolis, Bloomington & Western Railway?

    Anyone have the answer?

Box your first choice is correct.I lived at Shirley,In.and although it was B4 on the east end and P&E on the west end it was called by the old railroaders P&E. LEW

    Box ,
Another item,my parents had friends that lived in Willow Branch,In.and they had the contract to get the mail
from the Pass. train. I can remember going with the lady to the track and she would hang the mail bag in the iron man and here came the train and
they kicked off the mail and the hook took it out of the iron man. This was
in 1935-36 and I was 5 and 6 years old.The depot that was at Wilkinson,In. 2 miles west of Shirley
is now a house about 4 miles north of Knightstown,In.The only thing they did to change it was add a garage on the east end.The Shirley depot is still sitting at the original 1893
location although the bay window was removed in 1940. LEW

    Box I was looking through a 1913
Mich. Div. timetable and at Shirley
they had a gate to control who had the right of way.And the crossing railroad was P&E.This was about 18 years after the B-4 took over the east end.Of course when the NYC took over the B-4 in 1930 we just let the NYC put their name on the letterhead
but you still worked for th B-4 and the time table still used CCC&Stl until about 1950. LEW

Sure would be interested in learning this date. Somewhere after 1940, the NYC absorbed the Michigan Central, Big 4, etc. Never have seen a source for this date. I wonder why?

    Box,
On Jan.2 1930 the NYC announced
signing an aggrement with the B-4 and
    the Michigan Central a 99 yr.lease.
It was in effect Feb.1 1930.
In 1892 the B-4 took over the Cincinnati,Wabash ad Michigan by lease and incorperated it into the B-4 on Dec.17 1913
The 1913 ETT I have has New York Central Lines on the cover.CCC&Stl is
above the NYCL.The ETT is dated
    12:01pm June 22 1913. LEW
