Couple of questions...

    Well, just purchased a pair of the new P2K GP30s in ATSF, and I had a couple of prototype-related questions.

    These engines are numbered in the 3200 series, but as delivered in 1962 they were in the 1200 series. After the 3200s, they were then numbered into the 2700 series. For what time frame would the 3200 series be accurate?

    Second, for this time frame, what caboose types would be accurate to run? Thanks for your help guys.

    I need this info too! I'm glad you asked, I have just De-BNSF-Bandited my GP30's and need to renumber them to ATSF. I'm back-dating to 1975-1980ish. What a Great and Timely question!

    Well guys, here is what I have on them. Limited, but it may help. The GP 30s were renumbered in the 2700 series after rebuilds in the 1980 to 1984 period. At that time they were renumbered as follows:
    2700-2705, 2707-2729, 2731-2748,2750-2757, 2759-2760, 2762-2765, 2767-2785. They were still in the 1200 series as of 1963, but that was only a year after delivery to the SF. I would lay odds that the 3200 series occurred after reshopping in the early 70s. It would be a safe bet if you are planning on modeling the 1970 to 1980 period that the road numbers starting with 3200 and ending with 3284 would be correct. Hope this helps some. Happy Modeling!!

    I went and pulled out my copy of "Santa Fe Motive Power", and here's the answer to your question:

    Units renumbered from 1200's to 3200's between March and July 1970. TP&W #700 acquired 1-1-84 through merger, renumbered 3285. In mid 1980, Santa Fe began remanufacturing the 3200 class. The program was complete by July 1984. All units remanufactured before 1-1-1982 did not receive their 2700 series numbers until early 1982.

    Let me know if you want more info on a specific unit, as there are more individual details in the book.

    McMillan Publications has this book for $47.95. He also has Frank Ellington's Caboose Cars of the Santa Fe for $43.
