Does anyone know if CP egines would run through on AC track or vise versa?

What other roads would I see CP with?

What is the date of those pictures? Fairly recent? Did DH locos travel the entire CP system or mainly just the NorthEast. I like the looks of DH locos and now I may an excuse to run a few :)

As far as I have ever seen you'd only see the D&H locos on CP's D&H line in the northeast, that they at one point briefly re-named the "St. Lawrence & Hudson" branch, unless they were shipped out for work at various shops in Ontario. There is still at least one GP38 in D&H paint, the 7312, maybe a 2nd one as well, and the STLH paint is also down to a couple units. The D&H unit(s) operate from Binghamton yard.

As for what operates over CP lines, well on the D&H division you'd see a LOT of Norfolk Southern, in eastern New York state you'd see a lot of Guilford, you could see some CN on the north end, Vermont railway around Whitehall, NY, Reading and Blue Mountain northern shares trackage, or is at least paralell trackage in areas from Scranton down to around Reading, PA.

As for Algoma Central, as far as I know that was bought out by CN

Wisconsin Central, Ltd, acquired the AC in 1995. CN acquired the WC in 2001.

Thanks Boxcab, I thought WC had some involvement there and that clears it up perfectly, how I miss the old WC....

CP running over Algoma Central would be exceptionally rare if it ever happened. (besides interchange in Sault Ste Marie) The only situation that this would happen is if their was a major derailment between Sudbury & Franz or Franz & Thunder Bay, CP Trains could detour over ACR Trackage. (CN would do the same if their was a derailment between Hearst & Winnipeg.)

As for Algoma Central Locomotives running on CP it happened quite regularly. From the early 1960's until the mid 1990's CP had terrible seasonal power shortages and leased pretty much anything that could run. Algoma Central power was leased several times starting in 1978, GP7's SD40's & SD40-2's could often be seen on the eastern end of CP (east of Winnipeg)

As for other railways running on CP, it depends on the era/region. UP & Soo Line power could be found in run through service out west, NS power came up on Roadrailer trains. Of coarse there is also the extensive list of short term lease units.

From photos I've seen, the power shortages were in the winter, as that's when most foreign units showed up. I know most western US roads had higher traffic in summer or autumn due to crops and livestock. What kind of traffic caused CP to be busier in winter?

CP Typically Leased Power from September until February/March. Several things were happening during those months. there was a rush of bulk traffic, grain from the fall harvest and coal being stockpiled at power plants for winter. Also after Lake Superior froze over grain trains went through to Montreal/Saint John instead of terminating at Thunder Bay.

Add to this the increase in high priority traffic (Christmas stuff / the next years vehicles)
this eats up alot of main line power...

One thing I didn't really mention in my original post, I mentioned that CP leased Power from the early 1960's until the mid 1990's however the seasonal power shortages still existed prior to and after this time frame. Before the 1960's CP had enough steam locomotives they could pull from dead lines to fill the void, and the large GE orders of the late 1990's made enough SD40/40-2's surplus to help handle the rush.

I do believe that the Algoma Central Railway still exists as a separate but wholely owned subsidary of Canadian Pacific Railways. It has existed for several years as a tourist train running through the Agawa Canyon in Northern Ontario. In recent years it has suffered from dropping business, and the length of the train has literally been cut in half. Attempts to bring it back to it's former glory days of the 70's and 80's have not been entirely successful. Much of the "newer" equipment it has purchased, primarily from the Union Pacific Railway in the States, has been garbage and has been quite expensive to refurbish. Grants and loans from the Federal and Provincial governments have dried up and help from the Ontario Lottery Corporation has been almost non-existant. The last thing I heard from a cousin who retired from the Algoma, is a group of volunteers was doing most of the refurbishing work on the rolling stock, but it has been a slow and difficult process.
For more on the Algoma Central Railway, check any search engine and on any of the sites concerning it, you should be able to pull up a complete up to date history of the ACR.

I believe Algoma Central is now part of CN not CP! They got it when they purchased Wisconsin Central in 2001.

Not sure who owns the bridge from Canada to the USA at the SOO? Any UP'er's know if there is any Soo-DSS&A-CP links?

AFAIK the Algoma Central was an independent if small RR. Bought by WC, later part of CN. CN just bought the Ski Train for use in ACR Canyon train service. IIRC canyon trips should begin this weekend, so this may be your last chance to see D&RGW paint pulling passengers?
