Report from another D&H Railfan Saw the Holiday Train pass through Plattsburgh at the Station last night at Midnight. Impressive as always. This year the first four cars are lettered "Canadian Pacific Holiday Train" in the CP Script lettering.
I believe there were two trains last year as well. One on the US side and one on the Canadian side. I hope to see her this year
TB member and my Bro-in-law THarms77 are heading out to Gurnee with the family this afternoon to see the Holiday Train. Charger, I'll look for you. Jim
Jim- What did you think? Sorry I missed you, We got there around 5:35, I thought the train was very nicely done, and that they put on a decent show, except one thing.... The location could have been a lot better, not what we expected. Hard to believe that was the best spot on CPR in the northern suburbs for such a show. Pretty good turn out it seemed. Anyway got some decent, not great pics. Didn't make it to the head end until it was pulling out. I was expecting a 6pm Departure, per the website, they rolled at about 10 til. But, the follow on Hiawatha was a decent surprise. Two good things came out of it though, A. my wife always thought my scanner was dumb until tonight, she listened to it more than I did and relented that it was pretty cool after all B. Found a nice playground, not to far from my home where my daughter can play and I can watch trains at the same time. Brad
Charger and everyone eles. It was cool, although I agree, the area was not easy to get photos. I wanted to get a picture of the head end power but the fence was in the way, this was the best I could do for the front.. Here are some of the boxcars.
THarms got a bunch of pictures too, hopefully TB member Slambo will get some good shots in WI tomorrow. I got more shots, but we just got back, I'll add more pictures to my RI account tomorrow. Hey Brad, did you see that guy almost get arrested? One more.
Christmas Train 2006 As BNSF7173 has already mentioned, I also have some pictures from the CP Christmas Train. They aren't the greatest but they're good enough coming from a "rookie" like me. I don't have much experience with night shots and setting the shutter speeds. I'm still learning how to calibrate. We didn't take alot of time to take pictures since it was 20 degrees and I wasn't sure how long the "content time" of my 9mo would last. Enjoy the pictures: They are all similiar because the space to take pictures was kinda limited.
Great pictures. The CP track runs about 1 Km from the house. Due to a number of factors all the freight trains including the Holiday Train slow down to a crawl. We have our favorite place to sit and watch during the summer. A week ago Sunday we headed out and just as we pulled up to the siding the Holiday Train went by, not enough time to get the camera set up. Oh well next year.
