As some of you are aware, I have created a 'Big Four Memories' photo page http://madisonrails.railfan.net/big4memories1.html for my Railroads of Madison County web site where I am putting photos of the Big Four that don't fit into the lines that ran through Madison County. (Contributions welcome and credit given.) To this as an 'Extra', I have added four shots taken at Vermillion Ohio in 1975 of the clean up and bridge span replacement utilizing two (count 'em, two) CR Big Hooks. They were too good not to use. Enjoy!
It must have been fun, not, to be doing that work in the snow and cold. Interesting view of the ballasted deck section being lifted. I've been wondering what one looked like before installation. Boxcab E50
And I don't know any way to prove it, but I'd bet that this was the last use of these two cranes. :-(
