A number of years ago, a good friend of mine took a metal detector out to the site where this took place and actually recovered the bell off of one of the locomotives. Every year on the anniversary of the event he takes it out in his yard and rings it.
I recall a movie where they wrecked a couple of Rio Grande narrow gauge lokeys. (I believe that at least one was painted in the "Bumble Bee" scheme.) I've always thought that was rather a sad ending for those two historic items.
