Hi all, Just recieved the Colorado RR Museum Annual 28: "Rio Grande, Memories of the Final Years" by Ron Hill. 112 pages, all color photographs, covering the Tennessee Pass, Joint Line, Moffat Tunnel, Craig Branch, and Utah over Soldier Summit. Highly recommended for anyone interested in the last years of the Grande. $54.95 retail from the museum + postage, or $38.50 + postage from me.
All Ron Hill or other phtos? Not that it matters.. Any deep Tunnel District stuff? The inaccessible areas, that is... Sounds like a worthy addition to the library. What kind of Craig Branch areas are covered?
All Ron Hill photos. The locations give are general only. For example, the Denver pics are in different locations. As far as I know, none of these photos have been published before. There are RGZ pics mixed in this book as well. I hope this helps. Joint Line pics: Denver x 3 Littleton Acequia Sedalia x 3 Castle Rock x 2 Larkspur x 3 Greenland Palmer Lake x 3 Pueblo Tennessee Pass pics: Pueblo x 2 Garfield Salida Buena Vista Granite Malta x 2 Keeldar x 2 Tenn. It's out already! What's the postage going to be Rod? I'll be in contact shortly to order one.....and some Trainworx Gons!
It is great stuff. I wish I would have seen the offer for the $38 price since I paid $49 from the museum. The photo's are all right up my alley. The only thing I can say is I wish there were a few more shots closer up to the trains because of the slight lack of focus, its hard to make out the cars in the mostly distant shots. I like to use my books to identify actual freight cars for modeling purpose. This was a fine addition to my collection of books. I'd have to say some of my top favorites are Rio Grande in Color Volume 2: Utah and Rio Grande: Scenic Line of the World.
Rod, I bought mine from the museum also. But what the heck the extra helps the museum with all their projects. I wish one of the fine DRGW photograghers would come out with a good pictorial of DRGW facilities such as Burnam shops, North yard, different Stations, Intermodal facilities ect. Regards, Dave Dane
I agree, we do need a book or pictorial that focuses on operations, depots, inside and out, diesel and steam services, maintenance of way equipment, some crew quarters would be nice too. Josh
