Hey guys, I haven't been to this forum in a few years (been overseas a lot lately), but I was hoping you all could help me out with finding some photos. I've been trying to track down photos of the original Big Blue 50' Gunderson box cars that CSX ordered, the ones with the wider 12' door. I believe these were numbered around CSXT 1511XX - most of them were sold off and now appear with NOKL reporting marks like this one (from Fallen Flags): or this one with the straight side sill: The first one is obviously a former CSX car, but the second one also shows patches where the CSX logo was painted out (although it doesn't look like it had the Big Blue lettering. Not sure why these were sold off so fast, but apparently they weren't in CSX paint for long, because it's been tough finding photos of them. I'd appreciate any help you could offer. Thanks! Dave
Didn't L&N have a car similar to Big Blue? If so, then CSX may have inherited them through the Family Lines acquisition.
Hank - As far as I know, all of the cars that were actually lettered "Big Blue" were built in the mid-'90s. I don't recall seeing any L&N cars that looked quite like these, but L&N had a lot of similar-looking 60' cars. Are you maybe thinking of one of these? http://drolsen.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=335307 I've always thought that 50' high cubes like the Big Blue cars were more of a '90s era car on CSX.
Dave, I checked my digital photo collection and do not have any of the 1511xx series cars. I'll check thru my "film" photos when I get a chance. Harold
Looking thru my photos, I have found several 60' Big Blue cars that are now working elsewhere: one on AOK and the other KCS. Also, I have some AOK repainted cars that look like they could have been CSX 50' cars w/ the 12 foot doors: road # AOK 15032 & 15094. Harold
