Here are a few shots from a day of railfanning the CSX Mountain Sub (the old B&O West End Mainline) on 10/13/06. I'd never railfanned this line before, it was great - big time mountain railroading! After leaving Grafton (see the other post for some pics of Grafton Yard), the train passing through some curves west of Newburg: The head end, and then the helpers passing the old B&O position signals at Amblersburg WV: Further up the hill at Tanners crossing:
Cresting the top of Cranberry Hill at Terra Alta, WV: Meeting an empties train at Corwith (state line between Maryland and West Virginia): Passing the classic depot at Oakland, Maryland: and at the summit, passing the tower and about to start the descent down the famous 17 mile grade:
Now being it the same train in all these pictures in many different places. I wonder if the crew think's you are stalking them?
Great photos, especially at Cranberry Hill. You can really see the transition from steep grade to flat.....! Dave better hope that 214's crew doesn't report him for "stalking", the hogger might be female....mg:
Really nice! Ol' Mom Nature handed us a really bad fall here in West Michigan - of course we had several years of really good ones, so we were due, I guess.
